Ayurveda

Ayurveda, is a 5000-year-old medical science from India, and comes with hordes of benefits. Meaning "Science or Knowledge of life" in Sanskrit, ("Ayur" means life, and "Veda" means science or knowledge), it is a system based on the understanding of the five great elements --air, fire, water, earth, and ether.

Each of these elements has a set of particular qualities. All individuals are characterized into 3 categories based on a simplified form of three vital energies called Doshas--Vatta, Pitta, and Kapha.

Abhayangam

Abhyangam is a popular body massage in Ayurveda. It is believed to be the protector, preserver and rejuvenator of health. It helps to boost self-confidence and strengthen will power. It is an excellent tool to build and strengthen the defense mechanism of the body and to increase immunity towards unfavorable environmental changes.

The word Abhyangam means ‘to massage’. It is a massage specially designed to cater to individual needs, and their particular disease or condition. An Ayurvedic physician assesses the consitutes (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) and decides the appropriate oils to be used and the kind of massage to be administered. In Ayurveda, the Abhyangam massage has become popular because of its effective use in conditioning the body. Abhyangam is used both therapeutically and also to relax the mind and body.

Shirodhara

Shirodhara is one of the best-known and most popular Ayurvedic treatments. It is traditionally used to calm the nerves, harmonize Vata constitutions, restore the nerves, release stored emotions and to purify the mind. In Ayurvedic Medicine, it is considered an important tool in the pursuit of higher states of consciousness. Shirodhara has been traditionally known to help cure fatigue, mental exhaustion, anxiety, insomnia, headache, excessive thinking, nervousness, and many other conditions.

Shirodhara is an ancient Ayurvedic healing practice being performed in India for over 2,000 years. A special concoction with herbs is prepared in sesame oil. It is warmed and a continuous stream is poured on the forehead. It is administered for a specified period of time according to the needs of the person. We ensure a relaxed ambience with the client lying face up on a massage table.

Pinda Sweda

Traditionally, Pinda Sveda is a multipurpose treatment used for curing and treating conditions like arthritis, body, back and joint pains, asthma and stiffness. It also cleanses, detoxifies and nourishes the body. It improves muscle tone and relieves poor blood circulation.

Pinda Sveda is one of the most important sudation or sweating therapies and maybe given after oil massage. The procedure is simple but effective. A bolus of rice cooked with a herbal decoction is wrapped in linen and used for sudation. The linen wrapped boluses are repeatedly dipped in warm herbal oil, which is kept at a constant temperature and rubbed on the body using specialized strokes. This treatment usually takes 45 - 60 minutes and is followed by a warm bath.
